Drive to Big Sur with feeling the nature\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0 <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Well, I am going to write about the road trip to Monterey same as last time.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

We drove to Monterey which was the final destination, after visiting Hearst Castle.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

California State Route 1 goes past the area called “Big Sur”.\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>This highway runs between<\/span><\/p>\n

San Simeon <\/span><\/strong>and Carmel <\/span><\/strong>as you drive north<\/span>.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The distance about 71 miles.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The origin of the name of “Big Sur”<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The name “Big Sur “<\/strong> <\/span>is derived from Spanish\u00a0“el <\/span>pais grande del sur”<\/span><\/strong>,\u00a0meaning <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

“the big country of the south”.\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

It refers to the region south of the city of Monterey<\/span>.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

This road goes up and down many hills and turns left and right many times as it winds along <\/span><\/p>\n

the coastal hills and valleys.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

We could see the fabulous scenery and the Pacific ocean along this undeveloped coastline. <\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The scenery included trees, beaches, rocky cliffs, birds and sky.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

There were so many great spots to take pictures!<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

This California State Route 1 has another name, the\u00a0“Cabrillo Hwy”,<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong>and it was built in 1937.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

On this highway, there was\u00a0a landslide as many as 55 times<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

There was a very big landslide May a year ago, and the highway was closed until<\/span><\/p>\n

July 18th of this year.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

We could see the Pacific Ocean on the left side and we could see the huge grassy field<\/span><\/p>\n

with cows grazing<\/span> on the right side!<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

These views made me feel that the US is a big country.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The following photo is the place which had the landslide last year.<\/span><\/p>\n

The road is still under construction. However, it is\u00a0<\/span>mostly repaired. Notice the lack of plants on <\/span><\/p>\n

the hillside which was re-shaped by construction crews.<\/span><\/p>\n

This is the roadway which had been closed for one year. Still under construction.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

I could see some cracks! It was covered with a net, and it was scary scenery.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

We can see such a great ocean view!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

This is one of the famous places to take pictures, called “Bixby Creek Bridge” This bridge has been used in films,\u00a0TV shows, and TV commercials many times over the years.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

There were many people who stopped near the road to take a picture of the sunset like we also did.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

We met some wild animals surprisingly again!<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

While we were driving north, we saw some wild animals such as wild Sea Otters which we also saw<\/span><\/p>\n

on the first day at Morro Bay.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

At first, we stopped at\u00a0“Elephant Seal Vista Point”<\/strong><\/span> which we can see many Elephant Seals.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

When I looked toward the beach, I found there were many fat Elephant Seals\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Many Elephant Seals were sunbathing on the beach. I have never seen anything like this!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

 <\/p>\n

These fat seals were rolling around and some were getting on top the others. It was funny.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Also, we could see some cute baby seals!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n
