We joined the countdown party on New Year’s Eve\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

How was your\u00a0New Year’s Eve and what did you do?<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

I have been spending the New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day in the US for these several years.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

So I have not celebrated the New Year in the Japanese style for a while.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Americans do not have any habits like watching “Kohaku Uta Gassen”, eating Soba noodles or<\/span><\/p>\n

visiting a shrine\u00a0<\/span>to pray for the New Year.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

By the way\u00a0“Kohaku Uta Gassen” is a very popular TV show which is broadcast on the New Year’s Eve.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The show is basically a contest between male and female popular singers.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

After the show, we eat Soba noodles\u00a0called<\/span> “Toshikoshi Soba”<\/span><\/strong> which symbolizes long life.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This time, I am going to write about the typical way to celebrate the New Year <\/span><\/p>\n

in Los Angeles, California.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Some people spend at the end of the year with family or friends.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

However, many people celebrate at a countdown party, I think.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

In the last few years, we had been celebrating at a restaurant which served wonderful Asian food<\/span><\/p>\n

close to our home.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

We had dinner listened to live music and then we did the countdown.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Unfortunately, that restaurant closed 2 years ago.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

So this time, we went to another restaurant in Santa Monica to join their countdown party.<\/span><\/p>\n

This is the restaurant called “1212” which we joined the countdown party.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

 <\/p>\n

The traffic was light so we got to the restaurant at 9:30 PM<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

It was too early!<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The ground floor changed to a dance floor when the staff took away the tables and chairs.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

We drank wine and beer for more than 2 hours.<\/span><\/p>\n

Before I knew it, the restaurant was packed.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The dance floor was like sardines!<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

 <\/p>\n

Finally, the countdown was started\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The restaurant showed on a big screen the “Ball Dropping”<\/span> <\/strong>from New York City.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Together we counted 10 seconds before 2019. We were all going wild.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

 <\/p>\n

As you know, there is a time difference of three hours between the West Coast and the East Coast.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

So New York welcomed the New Year earlier than Los Angeles.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Basically, for most of these kinds of countdown parties, the restaurant plays the TV network scene<\/span><\/p>\n

which was recorded three hours earlier in New York City then.<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

We welcome the New Year w<\/span>atching a big screen and we counted 10 seconds together<\/span><\/p>\n
