I highly recommend going to In-N-Out if you want to eat a hamburger in California!![]()
I never heard the name of “In-N-Out” when I was in Japan.

I thought the most popular burger place is McDonald’s in the U.S., but that is not always true.
In California, many people will go to In-N-Out if they want to have burgers.
In-N-Out Burger is a culture that becomes a part of their lives.

It was founded in Baldwin Park in California in 1948 by Harry Snyder and Esther Snyder.
Now, their granddaughter, Lynsi Snyder has inherited the business. She has kept the way
of cooking burgers and the business style exactly the same as her parent’s era and her grandparent’s time.
Nowadays, In-N-Out Burger has 347 stores not only in California but also in Nevada, Texas, Arizona,
Oregon, and Utah.

Why so popular?![]()
There are many hamburger chains in the U.S. such as McDonald’s, Burger King, Jack in the Box and so on.
But why does everyone love this In-N-Out ?
The reason is cheap, fresh and tasty!

According to the explanation,
–All our burgers are made with fresh beef that’s never frozen.
–Our buns are made without preservatives the old fashioned way from real sponge dough.
–We hand-cut the leaves of lettuce every day.
–Our fries are peeled and diced daily from fresh, whole potatoes.
–Our fries are always cooked fresh in 100% sunflower oil.
These business methods make for very high customer satisfaction. That is why people love In-N-Out Burger.

By the way, there are secret menus for fries as well!

・Animal Style Fries :French fries with special sauce, grilled onions and melted cheese.
※You can also order only melted cheese.

This original sauce is called “Spread”.
The taste is like Thousand Island dressing.
By request, you can get In-N-Out’s famous special sauce in packet form.
It is perfect for dunking your french fries!
There are more options.
◆Onion
You can get them chopped or sliced, and have them raw or grilled.
You can also opt for a whole slice, grilled.
◆Chili Peppers
You can pick peppers for free.
If you want to spice things up, and ask for their spicy peppers on the side or have them chop them up
and put them on the burger.
These spicy peppers are matching with the burger!

An interesting thing in In-N-Out ![]()
Have you ever seen the small words and numbers printed on the side of the cup or on burger’s paper
bag?
When I found it, I wondered. What is this and what for?
Actually, the owner’s family is a religious.
In the 1980’s president Lynsi Snyder’s father, Rich started this system. Since then, the company has been kept this policy.
He chose to include pointers to particular Bible verses that we presume hold special meanings for them.
For example, the soda cup bears the notation John 3:16.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him
should not perish, but have everlasting life.”

The coffee cup bears the notation Luke 6:35.
“But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back.
Then your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High, because he is kind to the
ungrateful and wicked.”

These references from the Bible mean believe God, and love your enemies, and to be a giving person.
I felt that the Snyder family strongly believes in religion.
This never happens in Japan.
Actually, there is another fast-food restaurant which is related to religion. It is called, “Chick-fil-A”
This restaurant is famous for its chicken sandwich.
The owner of this company is also from a religious family. So all the stores are closed on Sunday.
Because Sunday is a day to go to church and pray to God.
This culture is very interesting to me.
Anyway, if you want to eat a burger in California, why don’t you go to In-N-Out!
